THE 15TH HALAL CERTIFICATION INSTITUTIONS MEETING, ORGANIZED BY JAKIM AND ATTENDED BY GIMDES, BEGAN YESTERDAY IN KUALA LUMPUR.
Mr. Zafer GEDİKLİ
The 15th Halal Certification Bodies Convention organized by JAKIM began yesterday in Kuala Lumpur. Today is the second day. Representatives from 92 institutions from 47 countries are participating.
A summary of the topics discussed can be summarized as follows:
The Malaysian government, under the coordination of JAKIM, is implementing the necessary regulations to ensure that products sold and imported within its country are Halal certified. This is both raising consumer awareness and taking measures to monitor the stages of Halal product production, production processes, transportation, and delivery to consumers. To this end, they are placing particular emphasis on digitalization, developing and encouraging the use of systems that are not paper-based and where all transactions are carried out digitally. This digitalization process is open to development and will be continuously updated in line with technological advancements.
Because the Malaysian Standards Agency has completed standardization in many areas related to Halal, we haven’t seen any new Halal standards or updates this year. JAKIM is now striving to ensure the proper implementation of existing standards. So far, we haven’t heard any topics in this regard that haven’t been raised before in the meetings. The most frequently mentioned concepts are sustainability, technology, and traceability.
The Malaysian government has launched a new policy to attract Islamic tourism to Malaysia. This policy aims to attract Muslim tourists to the country. To this end, they are certifying restaurants, hotels, and accommodations, etc., in accordance with the Halal Tourism Standard.
The program here will last two more days. Meanwhile, we decided to take advantage of the remaining time to hold a small consultation meeting with the WHC board members who have come to the region. We will probably hold this meeting tomorrow or Friday, insha’Allah.
Many people we spoke with, especially Mr. Abdulrahman Linzag, Mr. Mahmoud Tatari, Mr. Ali Fanous, Mr. Habib Ghanim, Mr. Sheikh Najjar, Mr. Saeed Navlakhi, and Mr. Saeed Ratbi, asked about GIMDES and expressed their sincere greetings.
